La Fiesta Carnavalesca se desarrollará en diversos escenarios instalados atrás de Plaza Las Américas, en la avenida Bonampak, donde la Dirección Municipal de Protección Civil y otras instituciones pusieron en marcha un operativo con más de mil elementos, para garantizar la seguridad de los asistentes. Los funcionarios municipales realizaron un recorrido por las instalaciones de la feria, flanqueados por las reinas del Carnaval: la máxima soberana “Delia I”; la Reina Juvenil, “Sara I”; la reina de la Alegría, “Paola I”; la Reina de las Regiones Populares, “Evelyn I”; la Reina de la Fantasía, “Yuri I”; la Reina Infantil, “Nicole I” y la Reina Preescolar, “Karen I”. El alcalde saludó a los participantes y directores de las más de 200 comparsas inscritas, quienes se reportaron listos para los desfiles y presentaciones que se realizarán en próximos días, cuando el Carnaval Cancún 2006 dé inicio el próximo  febrero. La Feria Carnavalesca se realiza como preámbulo del Carnaval Cancún  y tiene por objetivo motivar la asistencia a éste.

The festivities of Carnaval peak with 3 nights of lively, colorful parades that include harem girls, butterfly stiltmen, dance groups, and individuals in costume having fun and enjoying the festivities. All day long before the parades, groups are dancing on Cancun downtown traffic is snarled and there's excitement in the air! Tradition of the past holds that Carnavaleros exchange flowers and candies with the parade watchers however, it seems the Mardi Gras beads are becoming very popular as well! Carnavaleros are rushing to get into costume to participate in the parade while crowds begin to line the streets hours in advance securing their own great view of the parade antics.

So many Cancunenses have been participating for so many years in Carnaval that these events can get very serious....in a fun sort of way of course! A typical group consists of at least 40 dancers, male and female, and often times even more. Everyone takes the dance and costume contests very seriously and many months of preparation go into both. The competition is good spirited and everyone gets to be on display in the parades that follow so there are only winners at these events!
